The Honourable Chief Justice Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syarifuddin, SH., MH

 

Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin was appointed as the 14th Chief Justice of the Republic of Indonesia in April 2020.

 

Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin began his career in the judiciary at the Kutacane (Aceh) District Court in 1984. From there, he subsequently served as Judge at the District Court of Lubuk Linggau (South Sumatera), Pariaman (West Sumatera) and Baturaja (South Sumatera). In 2003, he was promoted as Judge at the South Jakarta District Court, and in 2005 promoted as the Vice Head of the Bandung District Court. In 2006 to 2011, he served as the Head of the Bandung District Court.

 

In 2011, Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin was promoted as High Court Judge at the Palembang High Court with the assignment as the Head of the Supervisory Board at the Supreme Court of Indonesia. In the same year, he obtained his Doctorate degree in Law from Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung.

 

In 2013, Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin was appointed as Justice at the Supreme Court of Indonesia. After two years as the Supreme Court Justice, CJ H.M. Syarifudin was entrusted as the Deputy Chief Justice / Head of the Supervisory Chamber at the Supreme Court of Indonesia. Only one year after this appointment, he was democratically elected as the Vice Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia for Judicial Affairs.

 

With the retirement of former Chief Justice H.M. Hatta Ali, Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin was democratically elected as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia on April 6, 2020 and took an oath before the President of the Republic of Indonesia on April 30, 2020. Chief Justice H.M. Syarifuddin concurrently serves as the Chairman of ASEAN Law Association National Committee of Indonesia.
