The 40th Governing Council Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association was held on 28 July 2018, at the Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore. The Meeting, which was held concurrently with The ASEAN Law Conference 2018, was attended by representatives of the National Committees of nine member countries. The Meeting was chaired by Hon. Atty. Avelino V. Cruz.
The Meeting unanimously agreed to posthumously elevate the late ALA Founding President Hon. Senator Edgardo J. Anagara to the ALA Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions. This was followed by a special tribute to Retired Chief Justice Kifrawi of Brunei Darussalam by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon of Singapore. ALA Secretary-General gave a report on ALA activities in the last three years, followed by a report by Atty. Andre C. Palacios on the ALA Cambodia Special Meeting on the ASEAN Law Institute. Singapore also raised for discussion a concept note on a virtual marketplace for internship and training opportunities within ASEAN. The Meeting concluded with Thailand’s agreement to host the 41st Governing Council Meeting in November 2019.
